Yoga FOR STRESS & ANXIETY

DARLEY ABBEY, Derby

I have been teaching Yoga for over 6 years and practicing for much longer. I am trained in Hatha, Vinyasa flow, Yin and Yoga Nidra. As with many teachers my style evolves over time incorporating the things we like from many different styles and types of Yoga. I used to teach lots of fast vinyasa flow type classes, but as the challenges of the last few years have taken their toll on people, I have had more demand for slower styles of Yoga focusing more on de-stressing than the emphasis being on working out.

Everyone is familiar with the physical postures in Yoga, but the benefits go well beyond flexibility or any other physical benefits such as improved sleep. Regularly practicing Yoga changes you as a person - your outlook on life, and your ability to cope with life’s challenges.

Yoga is an opportunity to disconnect from the fast pace of life, to be present in this time and space, and to reconnect with yourself - your body and your mind.

None of us can take our physical or mental health for granted, so make sure you MAKE the take time to prioritise your self care.

I now run Yoga 75 minute Yoga for Stress and Anxiety sessions on Thursday’s 7:30 - 8:30pm at saint Benedict school, Darley abbey, Derby.

What do sessions LOOK LIKE?

We do roughly 45 minutes of Yin style Yoga (slow floor based, long held postures) as there are many benefits to the body and mind of this slow practice.

We usually finish with a 30 minute guided mediation (known as Yoga Nidra), so bring a pillow and a blanket to get super comfy. This is usually everyone’s favourite part as they leave feeling super relaxed and ready for a great night’s sleep! Don’t worry if you have tried meditation before and struggled - with this all you have to do is listen to the sound of my voice.

I work in blocks of classes usually around 8 weeks long which are paid for upfront. I find this works for everyone - it motivates you to keep coming and it’s less admin for me. If you haven’t attended these sessions before, you are welcome to pay for one class (£10) before committing to the rest of the block. I record every class, and the recording is available for the rest of the week so that if you can’t make it in person, you can catch up from the recording at home (and you can do this as many times from home as you can fit in!)

All ages, abilities and experience levels are welcome to join us. I offer many different options to make it easier or harder and I always encourage you to listen to your body and take what suits you and leave what you don’t. It makes me happy to look around the class and see everyone doing something slightly different as it proves everyone is listening to their bodies!
